Love Me Back

Blurb:

Growing up in small-town Belcrest, Maddy Jennings always thought she was destined to be with her childhood sweetheart, Trent Basso. Throughout the complicated road she has traveled with Trent, someone else has had a strong presence in Maddy's life. Trent’s older brother Gabe has always been someone she could count on, therefore neither of them can be blamed when lines blur from friendship to something more. However, promises made between brothers threaten to ensure that neither of them will have a permanent place in her life.
When Maddy returns to her hometown for her brother’s wedding, she is forced to face both Trent and Gabe for the first time in two years. While the two Basso brothers fight to win her heart, she is busy struggling with a past that won't seem to let her go. Whether she wants to or not, Maddy must decide to either forfeit her own happiness or forever tear a family apart.

Angie J's snot  sobbing 5 star review:

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

Alright alright alright!!!!!  I finished this book but literally had to let it simmer in my brain.  I  finished the book but was an emotional MESS!!!  For me, emotional mess with reading = outstanding writing.  If an author can make me snot sob/ugly cry then she has done her job.  Well friends I did the ugly cry, wipe my nose on my sleeve, hiccup cry with this book AND I LOVED EVERY TEAR THAT FELL.  Yup I am a glutton for a tear jerker.  Why did I love this book you ask when some don't???  There are so many reasons so lets get started ok????

1. I love the back and forth past to present.  I love that with each chapter from past to present you learn so much more about Gabe and Maddy or Maddy and Trent.  I mean right when you think she have the dynamics figured out, BOOM another new layer is added.  PeopleI loved Trent and then hated Trent and then loved Trent.  I loved Gabe and then wanted to kick his butt and then loved him again.

2. The angst...yup I loved it.  The angst is THICK here.  The "almost" and "near close misses" are played at the right times in the novel.  I mean right when you are glad she is going to pick one brother or the other something happens and she is pulled back the other direction...generally Trents BUT....that is another issue.

Ok so what is this book about?  Maddy has loved Trent all her life and him her.  They are Romeo and Juliet.  She moved away at 11 and they share their first kiss.  He says he will always love her.  Things force her to move home and at 14 boom they are back together.  They do the on again off again dance for years but in HS seal the seal and have "relations".  Well Trent dumps her at college to "play the field" and enter his older brother Gabe to pick her up.  Everyone knows Maddy is Trent's girls so he just wants to hang out and cheer her up...until he falls head over heals for her.....DRAMA!!!!  BIG DRAMA!!!!  WEll Trent only seems to want Maddy back when he sees that Gabe is interested OR he is low cuz the baby isnt getting him way in life......

The story is going back and forth from growing up with Trent/Gabe Drama to present time when she is home for her brothers wedding.  She isn't with either brother but both are making a play for her.  One brother the family supports her being with but not the other brother.....DRAMA!!!

Like I have said, I loved this book. I love crying...does that make me weird???  Hope not.  I totally suggest that you give this a read.  I will prolly say that this book will make my top 10 books from July-December for the end of the year round up we will do!!!

About the author:

Michelle Lynn has always been a reader, but her passion has become a full-blown addiction since her husband bought her a Kindle for Mother's Day. She's pretty sure that he regrets this on a regular basis. Especially when she has it propped up next to the stove while she cooks, which often results in a burnt dinner. Or when he loses sleep because the glow from the screen wakes him up when he rolls over at three in the morning. He does agree, however, that she uses this gift more than any other he has ever gotten her. She joking counters that, because of some of the steamy novels she reads, he also benefits more from this gift than any other he has gotten her. ;)

Michelle moved around the Midwest most of her life, transferring from school to school before settling down in the outskirts of Chicago ten years ago, where she now resides with her husband and two kids. She developed a love of reading at a young age, which helped lay the foundation for her passion to write. With the encouragement of her family, she finally sat down and wrote one of the many stories that have been floating around in her head. When she isn’t reading or writing, she can be found playing with her kids, talking to her mom on the phone, or hanging out with her family and friends. But after chasing around twin preschoolers all day, she always cherishes her relaxation time after putting the kids to bed.

Excerpt:
Tommy Excerpt:
I don’t know why I’m here. I walk into her room with a cup of coffee and a bagel every day and sit with her until late at night. The nurses think I’m the compassionate boyfriend, not willing to leave her side. The truth is, I’m no one to her.
“Holly, I don’t know if you can hear me,” I whisper in her ear, wrapping my hand around her fingers. “You need to wake up. Tasha’s starting to think you’re slipping away but I told her she’s wrong.”
There’s no response. There hasn’t been for the past two weeks and I’m starting to worry there never will be. The first ten days, they kept her in a medically-induced coma so she wouldn’t suffer from the drug withdrawal. They started easing her off the medication a few days ago and she should be awake by now. The doctors are now classifying her as being in a “vegetative state” because she’s breathing on her own. If only she would give us some sign that she’s still in there…
I reach for bottle of lotion beside the bed. Every day, I massage her hands and arms, hoping that my touch will cause her to open her eyes and say something. My fingers trace the outline of every flower inked from just below her elbow up to her shoulder. Her half-sleeve gives her a hard exterior from a distance, but upon closer inspection, the tattoos form a magnificently detailed garden on her pale skin.
As I take her hand in mine, preparing to work the lotion into her fingers, I feel her jerk away from me. Startled, I look to the head of the bed and see her eyes open, staring at me.
“Hey, sleepy,” I say, my throat dry and raspy from the recycled air in the hospital. “You had us scared for a while.”
Holly Excerpt:
My body feels pulled toward the ground by lead weights, I can barely move. Even if not for the pressure, everything feels stiff. As I assess my situation, I hear voices around me, arguing. I focus on my breathing, trying to keep it steady so they won’t know I’m awake. If I open my eyes, I’ll have to face him and I’m not ready to do that.
“I’ve already arranged to help her get clean, I don’t see why you think we owe her anything beyond that.” I may not know Dylan well, but it doesn’t take a genius to know he’s pissed off. But at whom?
“Dylan,” a deep male voice warns. I’m trying to figure out why that voice sounds familiar to me. “Do you really mean to tell me you’ve never fucked up?”
“Like this?” He sneers. “No, I’ve never almost gotten myself and someone I claim to care about killed because I was so fucked up I couldn’t think straight.”
The words are completely true, but that doesn’t make them sting any less. While I have no clue what day it is or how long I’ve been asleep, I remember everything that led to me being here. I wish this was one of those times when the movies had it right, that I had no clue what happened to me.
“Dylan, you’re not being fair,” Tasha sobs. Her voice is further away than the men. Knowing she’s in the room causes an internal struggle. I want to see her, to apologize to her, to beg her to forgive me, but I’m not sure I deserve her forgiveness. I’m the one who led her into the arms of her ex-husband in a feeble attempt to save myself.
“Tasha,” Dylan scolds her in a low voice. “You’re the only reason I’m even standing here having this conversation. Don’t push your luck tonight.”
“Dylan, calm down,” the deep voice encourages. There’s no one in my life I can think of who would be sticking up for me this way, so who is he? “Take a look at your woman. Do you see how much this hurts her? How torn she is? Don’t make this even harder on her. Holly hasn’t always been the mess you know her as…”
“And how would you know? You’re the one who told me she was bad news. Now, all of a sudden you’re saying she’s not really a messed up junkie?”

Jo-Anna's Review:

I was asked by a friend to read and review this book for another friend of hers and I'm glad that I said yes.

The intro to the book had me hooked right from the very beginning! I could tell right away that this book was going to be dark and anyone who knows me, knows that I love dark stories. I love "real" stories and I couldn't wait to dive into this one.

Jo-Anna's Review:

I was given this book as an ARC by DC Hall who is a friend for an honest review. So here it goes.

This is DC Hall's debut novel and I really enjoyed it. It took you out of this world and it was a nice change. It was different and I loved it. I'm a HUGE YA fan and I'd have to say this one is up there for me for originality.

The book was written in two POV's which I loved by the way and tip, pay attention to every detail. I mean it, it helps. The details in this story are written so well, I felt like I was there and experiencing everything along side the characters.

It has everything a YA is known for, teenage crush type stuff, angst and then wait for it...a murder mystery?? Oooo...well that's not what YA's are known for but it's a great twist! If you love YA novels, read this one!!

Author Info:

DC Hall is obsessed with argyle socks, the smell of books and believes he is the smartest person in the room. Granted he’s usually alone when he thinks this but it still feels good. When his nose isn’t stuck in a book, DC is usually writing or trying to teach his dog, Brooklyn, how to wash dishes (success remains elusive.)

DC is the author of up-and-coming YA novel “Cuspian.” He lives in the south where the teas are sweet, distance is measured in minutes not miles and the skies are Carolina Blue.

Hard Rock Harlots Book 1 - Strings and Book 2 - Beats by Kendall Grey

Strings (Hard Rock Harlots, #1)

Blurb:

WARNING: STRINGS is not suitable for slut shamers, uptight stone throwers, Holier-Than-Thou prudes, humorless virgins, persons with chronic neck or back pain, pearl-clutching bitties, those who disparage crude humor or vulgarity in their many forms, closed-minded people with sticks up their asses, or anyone under the age of 18. The vile, base language and shocking, unholy sexual acts contained herein are not condoned by anyone with a lick of sense and should certainly not be reproduced without proper training and protection. The potty-mouthed and perpetually horny "heroine" (the term is used loosely) of this book does not resemble a normal, well-adjusted, or remotely believable person in any way, shape, or form. The author acknowledges that the characters in this book are shallow and two-dimensional; the plot is both ridiculous and insipid. She makes no apologies for any of it.

* Readers are strongly advised to wear latex gloves whilst reading to minimize contamination risks.

Free-spirited musician Letty Dillinger adheres to a strict, “no strings attached” policy when it comes to men. After a wild night of unabashed sex in a fancy hotel room, she never expects to see the adventurous stud she dubs “Shades” again. When her all-girl rock trio books a tour at the last minute as the opening act for their archenemies, Letty’s shocked to discover she knows the competition’s new lead singer. Intimately. Shades is no longer a one-night stand. Now he’s the guy she has to one-up on stage every night for the sake of her career.

Sharing close quarters on a bus with her sexy nemesis and his bad-boy buddies puts Letty’s Golden Rule to the test. On this tour, guitar strings aren’t the only things being played. And when heartstrings are pulled too hard, they’re bound to snap sooner or later.

Angie J's Review:

I bought this book after seeing the promo's for the 2nd book Beats that was releasing. I read some reviews from friends and the blurb and said "OMG I need to read this book".  I tried (unsuccessfully) to borrow the book from another Kindle user friend I know but me and technology is an epic fail so I said screw it.  I bought it.  It is $3.00 so even if it was bad it was $3.00 right??

OMG I have never laughed as hard as I did at this book.  Crass, Raunchy, Ridiculous, sexy, naughty and even JUST WRONG are phrases/words to describe this book BUT people I loved it........But I am kinda a naughty girl myself sooooooooooo...........

First up, I you read the blurb you will totally get what you read.  SO if any of that sounds like something you dont like...dont read.  If you laughed your ass off like I did reading it, then buy the book.  You will not be disappointed.

So Letty, our "Heroine" has a craptastic birthday but meets a hot guy for a one night stand.  They have one HELL of a night and she says "see ya" and figures she will never see the hottie she names "Shades" again.  WRONG!!  Turns out he is the new bass player for the one band in town she cannot associate with.  He is a member of a band who stole one of their songs!!  Not Good!!!

Well The 2 bands end up going on tour together.  Letty is trying to ignore the way she feels about Shades and he her BUT of course it doesn't work.  They have to keep their 'hook ups" secret or her band mates will quit the tour.

The sex scenes were hot and at times a bit gross (making me a gag a few times) but I loved it.  Letty doesn't make an apologizes for her sexual freedom.  Shades and her have a lot of fun and even try a 3way with another of his bandmates.  I was shocked because that band mate is kinda a major DB but it was interesting.  Shades is also very free with his sexual encounters and i will say that 3 way was VERY eye opening!!!!

Honestly, I dont want to tell you much about the plot because I want you to READ this damn book.  It cracked me up sooooo much.  The plot twist were great and the band issues are solved wonderfully so I cannot wait to read the next book.

Melinda's review:

I bought this book when my fellow blogger told me about it and said I had to read it.  Then when I read what it was about and saw it was a Rocker book, and not just any rocker book but one about a girl band, Oh yeah I’m in.

Please note there is a very fitting warning label PLEASE if you do nothing else read this FIRST before purchasing the book.  If you find anything offending in the warning this will not be a book for you because it is raunchy, sexy, and humorous.

First off I never read the titles of the chapters but for some reason I did and OMG love it, let me list a few…..

·         Shit, Meet Fan

·         Man Pasties and G-string Banana Hammocks

·         I’d Wear a Dick Hat on Stage

·         Stage Christening

·         Slap My Bare Ass and Call Me Sassy

What have I gotten myself into this has got to be good.

Letty is the bass player/singer in her band Cherry Buzz Float who on her birthday decides to have a one night stand with a guy she calls “Shades” knowing she will never see him again.  Letty’s manager convinces the band to go on tour with a rival guy band, which just happened to steal one of their songs a few years back.  Enter the guy band and Todd, aka Shades, the new bass player.  That’s right Letty’s never to see again one night stand is going on tour with her.

Letty is a no holds bar woman who will say what she wants, when she wants it, and how she wants it.  She likes to be in control.  Who can resist a bad ass rocker chic? Shades also likes to be in control but is up for new adventures when it comes to Letty.  Oh the things he lets her do and lets her think she is in charge while doing it.

This is a great story of the two bands trying to make it big and Letty and Todd trying to keep their one night stand and secret get togethers from the other band members.  I loved this rocker book it was raw and in your face.  There is conflict, blowups, and then the coming together (snickers…this can be taken so many ways).  I cannot wait to read the next one; I am downloading it as soon as I’m done writing this review.  I give this book 4.5 star rating.

Book 2 in the Hard Rock Harlots Series
WARNING: BEATS is specially formulated for horn dogs, porn oglers, smut peddlers, BDSM junkies, M/M and M/M/F addicts, DP dabblers, body modification connoisseurs, and lovers of A2M backdoor sexy times. If you don’t fall into these categories, can’t stomach hot man-on-man action, or if you have no idea what the above acronyms mean, please back away from BEATS now. This isn’t the book you’re looking for. Failure to heed this warning could inadvertently throw unauthorized users into a persistent vegetative state, or at the very least, require administration of a defibrillator to the chest and/or groin area. Nobody wants that.

For months, shy drummer Jinx Hardwick has been silently crushing on her tall, dark, and scary bandmate, Toombs Badcock. Drawn to his frightening ink and scars, she yearns to uncover the shadowy secrets lurking behind his silver eyes, but Jinx is too intimidated to even look at him, let alone talk to him. When she stumbles upon Toombs and their manipulative lead guitarist Rax in a compromising position, Jinx realizes her chances of winning Toombs’s heart aren’t just a long shot—they’re nonexistent. To make matters worse, Jinx’s family needs her at home. She’s about to back away from it all—Toombs, the band, her dreams of fame and fortune—when Rax makes her an offer she can’t refuse: a no-holds-barred night alone with Toombs. There’s one small catch. She has to go through Rax to get it.

Angie J's Review:

I bought this book after starting book 1 and loving it completely.  I saw that this book was releasing and grabbed it.  I couldn't put it down.  OMG These books are great.  Book 1 was raunchy and naughty but book 2 was a lot deeper and more serious.

In book 1, we saw Jinx and Toombs pining for each other and we wondered how things would go.  Well we find out in a big way what is up.  Toombs is Rax's submissive and will do any and all things Rax tells him.  Well Jinx walks in on Rax and Toombs "fun time" and Rax WANTS her but he knows she wants Toombs and Toombs wants Jinx.  Toombs is embarrassed because he doesn't feel he is good enough for Jinx.  She is so "pure" in contrast to him.  The dynamic of the relationship between Rax and Toombs is sad and confusing.  I was like "AUGHHHH" alot with Toombs because we, like Jinx, have no clue the history of the 2 men.

One night Jinx walks in on Rax and Toombs with a groupie and she gets a "handful" of Toombs but is sad when he rebuffs her kiss.  She is so embarrassed.  The following day Rax approaches her and says she can have Toombs but with him too.  What is Jinx to do?????  She says yes.
The sex that night is crazy and Jinx will not let Rax take control of the situation and totally undermines his 'authority".  I love what she does to him....wanna know then read it.  I will say that Rax is stunned by our quiet, little Jinx and the fire in her belly.

Well while all this is going on Jinx has some family drama and Rax says he can help with it IF she gives him one night along.  She agrees only because she gets a night alone with Toombs.   But her one night with Toombs is a disaster because he is more concerned with helping her find her "beats".  She seems to have lost her creative juices so to say and he wants her to get back on track before she is fired from the band.

I can't really tell more about the book because the plot line is amazing and deep.  It had Letty and Shades being Letty and Shades but the vibe is soooo different from book 1.  To be honest, Book 2 kicks book 1's ass.  The author totally made my head spin.  I expected totally raunchy, crass comedy but what I got was gut wrenching and heart wrenching.

I am on pins and needles for more of this series.  I need to know how everyone shakes out after the ending confrontation.

Melinda's Review:

My fellow blogger told me I had to read Strings.  Well after I read Strings I just had to buy and read Beats.   I mean who can resist a Rocker book and not just any rocker book but one that has chicks that can rock as hard as and better than the guys.

Please note there is a very fitting warning label PLEASE if you do nothing else read this FIRST before purchasing the book.  If you find anything offending in the warning this will not be a book for you because you will read everything that is in the warning.

Jinx it the shy quite one in the band that has feeling for Toombs who is frightening and seems to have dark secrets.  I love that everyone thinks they have Jinx figured out and that she is a meek quite shy girl and really she is as she calls herself a chameleon.  Jinx realizes she is in love with Toombs but Toombs is in love with their lead guitarist Rax - ass extraordinaire.  Everyone can see that Jinx has a thing for Toombs even Rax.  Rax makes Jinx an offer to let her be with Toombs but she has to be with him too.

I loved this story.  First, the personalities were great.  Jinx who you think is shy and quite but when you get to know her is so not she has spunk and can hold her own when pushed.  You have Toombs who is scary and just not sure of him but he has this sweet kind side once you get past his ruff exterior.  Then there is Rax well he seems to be all he is an Ass no in between.  I really hope the next book is his and he redeems himself.  I still love Letty and her no holds bar attitude and mouth and then there is Shades yummy I see why Letty likes him so.  I wished the story was a little longer; I got to the end and found myself wanting more.

Second, the books were totally different.  In most series the books seem to be the same.  In Strings it was raunchy, sexy, and humorous.   With Beats it was rawer, had more depth, darkness, and so many layers.  There was just so much more to Jinx and Toombs that I never saw some things coming and things you find out about each of them…amazing.  It just proves you think you know someone but until they let you into their mind and heart you have no idea.

My favorite part is when Jinx lets loose and punches Rax in the face, I wanted to yell “go Jinx go do it again.” My second favorite is a video chat with Jinx, her brother and Toombs – I got a little choked up on that. All I can say is Kendall Gray you have me hooked cannot wait for the next book.  I give this book a 5 star rating.
