"Please don't give up on me."-Alex

Where do I begin with this book? I finished reading Saving Alexander four days ago and I still have a book hangover. I needed to gather my thoughts so that I could do this book justice. Let's start with Alexander.

Alexander is a well known author whose books are about to be made into a TV series. He's a damaged man. HIs past life is horrifying, a tortured soul, who when you keep reading you ask yourself "how did he survive?" He's a quiet man who keeps to himself. At 22% my heart was breaking.  I felt his angst, I felt his pain, I felt his anguish. I just wanted to reach out to him and hug him and tell him everything would be okay.

Then we meet Christopher Sage. He is chosen to play  the lead role in Alexander's TV series. He's gorgeous, sexy, funny and loyal. When they met on set, you can feel the energy between them, even though Alex comes across as somewhat rude. Alex doesn't do relationships because he thinks he doesn't deserve true happiness.  He see's himself tainted, dirty, weak. Thank goodness for Sage who doesn't take no for an answer and goes after what he wants, which in this case is Alex.

They begin dating and little by little Alex starts letting his walls down and lets Sage in.  When Alex tells Sage about his past and everything he went through, he thought Sage would run in the opposite direction, but not only does Sage stay, he tells him he's there for him and will do everything he can to help him and stay with him. Sage has a huge heart, not everyone is willing to put up with what Sage had to, I don't even know if I could, but he loved Alex so much that he put his issues aside for the sake of helping Alex. The connection between these two men is palpable, you can feel it.

I had to stop a few times in between to catch my breath. Alex made me cry, but then Sage would come in and make me feel better. There are twists and turns with the secondary characters. This was like a roller coaster ride.

I loved the ending. Alex and Sage got the HEA they both deserved. I was hooked from the very first page.  The author did a wonderful job at keeping the reader engrossed with the story, that you actually forgot you had a life and had things to do. I ignored my family while reading this book. If you haven't read it, I recommend you go one click right now.  Do. Not. Wait.

When Susan told me she was doing another book I was excited.  I had reviewed her book Stripped Bare and loved it and loved the characters.  So I knew I would be in for a real treat.......... I was NOT prepared for how much I was going to get sucked into this story!  O.....M.....G.....  I had a few people warn me because was mention of rape and some other not so nice things.....I prepared myself.  I didn't watch or read any reviews, I wanted an open mind.  I went in with an open mind and I am so glad that I did.  I immediately loved Alex, and I knew that he had a lot of secrets and "something" must have made him be so withdrawn from society and for feeling.  And SAGE..... how can anyone resist the hot actor who is openly gay!?!  I was loving it and then I got to a certain part (I won't spoil it by telling you which chapter..) but I was in the car traveling with my hubby.  First there were tears...I dabbed them with my shirt sleeve...then I found a tissue in my purse.... then I needed another.... THEN the sobbing started.  Hubby asks if I was OK and if he should pull over.  I was sobbing and could not speak...I pointed to my kindle....and then he once again, shook his head.  My daughter (7 yrs old) says, Mommy are you OK?  Are you hurt?  I could only shake my head and continue to read and cry to myself......I felt like I needed a hug at that point!!  I wanted to jump in the book and just hug him!  JUST....HUG....HIM.....  oh my!!!! 

And like Marivett said....there were twists and turns to this story that I was not expecting.  I was trying, all along, to guess "whodunit"!  I kept changing my mind, but eventually I was right.  But it still took me for a loop!!

So if you love M/M books with a great story and romance...this is your book!  keep an open mind and you will love this book as much as I did!!!  I was definitely having a book hangover.  It took me a couple of days to prepare myself to write this review.  Every time I started, I would start crying again.  I better quit now, or I'll be crying again...  GREAT READ -- GO ONE-CLICK!!

I loved this story and will be reading more books by Susan Mac Nicol.  I am a sucker for a good love story with some suspense and this did not disappoint. I was drawn in from the beginning and didn’t want to put it down because I had to know what was going to happen next.  Although there were times my heart hurt so much I had to put it down.   I had to have a box of tissues close by and it was difficult reading this one while at lunch at work. You know co-workers tend to think you are a little crazy when you are crying while reading a book in the lunch room.

Like I said this one drew me in from the first chapter. Alex has had a tortured, messed up life and goes to an exclusive S&M club as one of his forms of therapy.  I wanted to know more about Alex the famous author whose book is about to be made into a TV series.  Alex decides he wants the one and only Christopher Sage to play the leading role.  The attraction between these two is apparent from the first meeting.  This is where the roller coaster ride began taking that first big climb up the hill all that tension and then whoosh down the hill, around some sharp turns, then the corkscrew making things feel like they are spiraling out of control, add in the loops where you have no idea which way is up, and then easing back into the station.

 

I loved the dynamics between the other individuals in this book also. Sage and Miles I loved their father/son type relationship, the way they took care of each other and worried about one another just like a father and son would.  Then you had Sage and Dan’s brotherly type relationship, they knew when they needed to be there for each other, when to back away, and got into their share of predicaments together just like brothers would.  Alex and Melanie I just loved how in tune she was to him, I know being a therapist you would think she would have to be that way but there seemed to be more to me almost like she was an older sister.  This was a great book and if you are ready to go on a roller coaster ride you need to get a copy of this book.
