About The Author

Melissa Rolka grew up in the Chicagoland area all of her childhood and has always had a love of writing. She started by keeping a journal at a young age and then in high school she started writing poetry. A couple poems were published anonymously. Then in college she majored in Philosophy, which required lots and lots of writing. After graduating from Marquette University she traveled west to Los Angeles. There she worked for the Writers Guild of America and found herself submerged in the writers world. She worked on small writings, but never pursued them. On the side she became involved with a small theater group. Eventually she made her way back to the Midwest, where her heart belongs, and worked in business for several years. She found love, got married and has two beautiful children. Being at home has allowed her to keep following her love of reading and writing.

The Perfect Distraction is her first full length novel. A second continuation of this story is in the works with hopes for a third. When Melissa is not writing she is caring for, playing with and loving her two kids. In between taking care of her family and writing she almost always has her nose buried in her Kindle.

This gritty spin-off of the New York Times bestselling Shattered Hearts Series follows mysterious and sexy Tristan as he attempts to abandon his demons in the name of love. This full-length novel can be read as a stand-alone or after Bring Me Home.
A steady stream of meaningless sex is all Tristan has left when he discovers the grandmother who raised him is dying and his best friend is getting married. He is lost; and the dark secrets in his past keep coming back to remind him of this. Until Tristan has an idea that will change his life and fulfill his dying grandmother’s wishes: Abandon his playboy ways and settle down. And who better to do it with than Senia, the girl who has occupied his thoughts since their scorching hot tryst in the back of his sports car. The girl who makes him laugh and feel like a kid again. But when his world begins to crumble around him, the pain Tristan is hiding finds its way to the surface. Will Tristan finally learn to trust again? Or will he abandon Senia when she needs him the most?

Brenda's Review
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Now I must confess.  I wasn't a huge fan of Tristan in the Shattered Heart series.  I loved Chris, Claire, and Senia.  And because of Senia, I really wanted to read this book.  Well, I am now a HUGE fan of Tristan!!  What was I thinking?  He has so redeemed himself for me!!! sigh....................

Tristan group up with drug addict for a mother (who he doesn't even call his mother).  Luckily he had his grandmother.  He also helped take care of his little sister.  Now that he's a rock star and has the money, he takes care of his grandmother and sister (sigh again.............).  He's got a secret soft side that you will instantly fall in love with.  Oh, you still get to see Tristan's "naughty" side!!  oh wow!! I'd trade places with Senia for a couple of days!!! mmmmmm

If you read the Shattered Heart series then you know that Senia is pregnant.....and it's Tristan's.  Can the playboy rocker settle down?  Does he WANT to?  Can Senia handle being a mom?  Well you know I don't do spoilers, so you better just read this and find out.  You don't HAVE to read the Shattered series, but it is well worth it to get more of the background series.

Definitely a 5 star story for me!!

CHAPTER EIGHT
Excerpt

My phone vibrates in my pocket and I pull it out immediately. When I see the name on the screen, it’s as if the clouds have parted and shined a light on this tiny corner of the hospital cafeteria. Then I read the message and I resist the urge to throw my phone across the room.

Senia: Thanks for the kind message. Now kindly stop texting me. I’m not interested in being one of your concubines.

I probably don’t deserve anything better than this from Senia, but it still feels like a kick in the nuts at a time like this. In any case, I don’t have it in me to chase her anymore. It was sort of fun for the last twelve days to bug her with cheesy text messages, but it just feels stupid and pathetic now.

Me: Whatever you say.

Molly stands up and I grab her hand before she can leave. “Where are you going?”
“I have to go to the restroom. Want to join me?”
“You think that’s funny, but I actually—”
“—potty-trained me. I know. You’ve told me a million times. It’s gross.”
“Get out of here before I tell everyone in this cafeteria about the time you shit in Grandma’s flower pot.”
“There’s no one here.”
“Then I’ll write a song about it.”
“You haven’t written anything in years,” she mutters, then she walks away.
My phone vibrates again and a tremor of regret reverberates inside me for all the ways I haven’t been good enough for Molly. I must be such a fucking disappointment to her. I used to write songs for her all the time and I’d sing her to sleep. I stopped writing three years ago. It’s pointless. No one needs me to write songs. They need me to play my fucking instrument and bring the band the occasional bit of bad press.
I turn my phone over on the table to check the screen and this message brings the faintest hint of a smile to my lips.

Senia: Are you okay?
Me: No. I’m at the hospital.
Senia: What’s wrong?

I don’t have to tell her anything. Something tells me that Senia will probably come running to my side if I speak the right empty promises. But I really don’t feel like fucking her.
I just need to talk.

Me: Can I call you later?

She makes me wait a torturous forty minutes for her response. Molly is back from the restroom and seated across from me, using my phone to text her friends, but even Molly smiles when she sees the text message pop up on my screen.

Senia: Fine. But you’d better not tell me you’re pregnant.

She narrows her eyes at me and leans back to get more comfortable. “Aren’t you going to offer me something to drink?”
“You can’t drink in your condition.”
“Why, yes, I’d love a glass of water. Thank you.”

Together, they can face anything. But the most dangerous foe has been there all along, and when the truths are exposed and the lies come crumbling down, which side will Daemon and Katy be standing on? And will they even be together?

Jo-Anna's Review:

This series is by far my favorite young adult series EVER! It's different, it's hot, it's funny, sad, emotional...everything you can have and want in a book, this series has it.

This is book 4 so I suggest reading the first 3 books. Now this review may contain spoilers for those that haven't read the other books but I'll try not to let it. I will do my best.

So this book starts where Opal finishes and thank goodness for that. The ending of Opal just about killed me and I didn't think that could happen since reading Shadows.

Katy is still trapped and that was awful to read. What she went through was heart breaking and then seeing Daemon's POV, the emotional distress he was going through just about did me in. Oh and I have to say that one thing I loved about this book is actually seeing things in Daemon's perspective.

So much happens in this book, from love to friendship, to heartbreak to absolute chaos. It was a major page turner and kept you on the edge of your seat through the whole thing. I don't want to say too much just in case people reading this haven't read the first three books.

There were times where I was not expecting something to happen and then it's like BAM! Jennifer is amazing at writing suspense and keeping you on your toes. I will be very sad when this series ends.

Who knew aliens could be so freaking hot?

Collaboration Release Launch by Michelle Lynn Featuring Neaveh Lee

 YouTube BOOK TRAILER:

This is not your typical rock star romance. For one, the “rock star” is a rapper. And not just any rapper. Trace is the hottest ticket in the music industry right now, regardless of which definition of ‘hot’ you choose.

Taryn Starr is not the girl-next-door who unknowingly meets a celebrity. Known as “America’s Sweetheart,” the reigning country music princess and world-renowned superstar knows exactly who Trace is…or does she?

Their worlds collide when the musicians whose paths were never destined to cross are forced by their joint record label to collaborate on a song. The sparks fly and ignite a fire that blazes hotter with every minute they spend together—for better or worse. One thing’s for certain, the two media magnets can’t deny their explosive chemistry, but will life in the spotlight ultimately bring Trace and Taryn together or force them apart?

***This contemporary romance new adult novel is for mature audiences. The language alone would make a sailor blush (the guy’s a rapper, remember?) so 18+ only, please***

Excerpt :

My guitarist, huh? I can’t help but wonder what else he is to her. Considering his close proximity and the adoring way he’s looking at her, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out what he wants to be. Question is, what does she want? Or rather, who? And why the hell do I care anyway?

“Trace?” I snap out of my ridiculous thoughts to see both Taryn and Ryder staring at me. I also don’t miss the curious look her mom is shooting my way, arched eyebrow included.
“Nice to meet you,” I say, using my most polite voice. It’s a good thing my boys aren’t listening in or they’d be giving me shit for sure. “You must be a hell of a guitar player to get to back up this girl.” Okay, that was a dig I just couldn’t help.

“I do what I can,” he says with a smirk, and I have the unexpected urge to knock that grin right off country boy’s face. My label would love that, me starting a fight right here at the home office. “Oh, and congrats on the win, by the way, even if you did beat my girl here. Then again, she did take home the grand prize so it’s all good, right?”

If Taryn was a fire hydrant, he just pissed all over her. Yeah, I better get the fuck out of here and fast. “Yeah, we’re good. Look, it’s good to meet you, but I gotta jet...literally,” I say and notice the way the corner of Taryn’s perfect pink lips turn up at my words. “Tour starts tomorrow.”

“I heard about your tour,” he says and I raise my eyebrows. This should be interesting because I know this redneck doesn’t listen to my music. “What’s it called again?” he asks, and I see his eyes shift to the right where there is a newly-released tour poster covering half of the damn wall. The words “This is Me, Motherfuckers” are emblazoned across a life-sized version of me giving two middle fingers to anyone who sees it. Ironically, this poster doesn’t really represent me at all, but this asshole doesn’t need to know that. I’m not sure why exactly, but he is definitely trying to make me look bad in front of Taryn. Well, two can play at that game.

“I guess they don’t teach you how to read down where you’re from, huh?” I ask, indicating the poster. I don’t miss Taryn’s mouth drop open in shock at my words. So much for being polite, I think.

“Actually,” he says, the ever-present smirk still firmly in place, “our home state is known for its high literacy rates.” And there he goes pissing again.

“Well, that’s nice to hear and if I had more time, I’d love a little lesson on the educational system in Texas. But I have a tour to start so if you’ll excuse me, I’ll have to see both of ya’ll later,” I say and brush past Ryder, not bothering to look Taryn’s way again.

Michelle Lynn Bio:
Michelle moved around the Midwest most of her life, transferring from school to school before settling down in the outskirts of Chicago ten years ago, where she now resides with her husband and two kids.  She developed a love of reading at a young age, which helped lay the foundation for her passion to write.   With the encouragement of her family, she finally sat down and wrote one of the many stories that have been floating around in her head. When she isn’t reading or writing, she can be found playing with her kids, talking to her mom on the phone, or hanging out with her family and friends.  But after chasing around twin preschoolers all day, she always cherishes her relaxation time after putting the kids to bed.

Nevaeh Lee Bio:
Nevaeh’s first exposure to writing began in a middle school creative writing class. She was reprimanded for composing a politically incorrect story and forced to re-write about a “safer” topic. Being the writing rebel that she is, Nevaeh always likes to push the envelope a bit and never re-writes, unless her editor insists on it.

When she’s not writing, Nevaeh is a freelance book editor ;). And when she’s not reading, writing, or editing, she can be found spending time with her family and taking road trips, exploring the area around wherever she happens to be living at the time. Even though “home” will always be Texas, she has lived in several different states and countries, but currently resides in the DC metro area.

She also adores her really big dog who frequently takes her for walks while enduring her many story ideas and rambling dialogue, which sometimes occurs in multiple languages. After many years of this, she finally decided to start writing out some of these stories and her first book, a joint effort called Collaboration, will be self-published on January 26, 2014.
